A devil is at work in the Ukrainian village of Sorochintsy, terrifying residents and travellers alike. Among them a farmer whose daughter is not allowed to marry her lover because her quarrelsome stepmother is against it.

This is released as part of Art Haus' Walter Felsenstein edition. Felsenstein, a contemporary of Bertold Brecht, ran the East German Komische Oper from just after World War II to his death. Felstenstein was famous for his ensemble productions and for the enormous amount of rehearsal time that went into his productions.

Horst Tappert plays a high-ranking dignitary in the Vatican who will soon be made a cardinal. But shortly before this goal, a young woman confronts him in the confessional and accuses him of hypocrisy. She reveals that she is his daughter, whose existence he did not know. Now he is faced with a choice: if he commits to her, he risks his appointment; If he denies her, he loses the only person who is close to him.

Martin Becker, a drug addict, journeys to Colombia seeking direct access to supply but vanishes. When his mother Lore is summoned to identify his body, she discovers the corpse isn’t her son, but just someone using his passport. With the aid of adventurous pilot Blain, she uncovers a jungle-backed drug ring where addicts are enslaved by the mafia. Filmed on location in Ecuador, this crime adventure follows their perilous quest for the truth.
